The Herbs Kill Fascism
This project is entitled ‘The Herbs Kills Fascism’, this name is taken from a sticker that the American folk artist and protester Woody Guthrie had on his guitar which read “This Machine Kills Fascism” referring to the power of protest music. This project shows how music can reflect the history of the era in which it was made. I have highlighted this by looking at four protest songs by the group Herbs from New Zealand. Each song is represented by a stylised protest sign that uses typographical design to showcase some of the songs provocative lyrics. The goal of this project is to create a medium which engages and excites the audience and encourages them to find out more about the history on their own.
